No Suga No Fun

Life sans sugar is to say the least...challenging.  Everything has sugar in it, I mean everything.  So avoiding the sugar is difficult, however, I am managing to do so.....I am also hoping that the fast from the sweet stuff will start paying more dividends.  Have maintained my mileage but seen no discernable effect from going without.  I have gotten past the energy drought which took about 5 days, and now am hopeful that the payoff will come...

You ain't no daisy

Removing sugar from the diet is tuff. Reached for a n energy bar
without even thinking and just about everything we consume in society
today is full of the stuff

That being said I managed to significantly reduce my intake of refined
sugar and other sweets and am hopeful to continue to improve and see
positive results :)

Feelin groovy

Wonderful 6 miles this morning, legs felt great. Reading an article
in mens health last night about sugar. In one study, mice that were
already addicted to cocaine would still pick sugar over the cocaine
when it was offered. Wow! Going to experent a bit this week by
totally removing all sweets from my diet. Will see how that goes.
Ohh was 239 this am. Need to keep on keepin on.

Methinks that Hills are the Devil..

Was in Austin, TX on vacation during past week.  Ran Hills Thursday with Laura while we were there and man o man the hills were tuff.  You can see the elevation changes in the graph below.  For a couple of flat-landers used to running routes that may have a maximum elevation change of 20 feet across 4-5 miles, this was crazy.

Anyway was great staying at Barton Creek and I highly recommend anyone going there and yes even running the hills.

Feelin Good!

Well took Monday off, 1 because I needed a break and 2 because given the dehydration I was feeling after the triathlon on Sunday, I really didn't have any choice.  Ran 4 miles this morning and it was tough but now feels great.  Stepped on the scale today and after 11 days trimmed down from 253 to 240.2 yay I am sure that my weight loss will moderate but feels good to see the scales drop that drastically.  Like I said, Feelin Good!

First Week Back in the Saddle

Completed about 7.5 hours of training...wow...capped off by a 6 mile run yesterday and a sprint triathlon in 95 degree 8am heat today.  Felt great during the week, logged a good amount of bike mileage and had some good swims.  Did my 500 meter swim this morning in 11:34 which for me is a major improvement.  Many of my 500 Meter swims have been in the 13:00 to 15:00 minute range so feel real good about my performance today.

Too Many Options

P90X, The Whole 30, Go Paleo, The Atkins system.  All probably good for someone...maybe not so much for me...Going to try and aggressively attack my poor eating habits to go along with renewed training.  But these are the rules I am going to attempt to follow for now..

1.  Eat 6-7 times a day
2.  Eat Protein, Carbs, Fat in that order (or an a semblance thereof)
3.  Try not to eat after 7:30pm except for some type of protein before bed
4.  Go to bed on protein (see rule 3 above)
5.  Meat portions limited to the size of my palm.
6.  Go Green, Eat all the veggies I can. (green leafy vegetables are virtually unlimited)
7.  Eat fruits but be careful not to over indulge.
8.  Always pair a protein with a carb even for mid meal snacks.
9.  Not freak out over food.
10.  No Alcohol (OK will have an exception week during my vacation :)
